Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Mr. Harish Rawat today lambasted the BJP saying that the BJP is trying to win elections with false promises and slogans, but Congress is contesting elections on development. Attaching BJP leader Narendra Modi, the prime ministerial candidate of the party, Rawat said he could not unite his own state, how can he unite the entire country.

“BJP is spending crores of rupees on branding one person which is much more than the expenditure on campaigning by all the parties”, he said, adding that Modi has big corporate houses with him but doesn’t understand the problems of the poor.

The chief minister was addressing a massive rally at Sector 40 Dussehra ground here this evening, in support of Congress candidate, Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal. The rally attended by thousands of people from Uttarakhand community had been organised by Uttarkhand Congress Cell under the presidentship of Mr. Barinder Rawat.

“Modi is more concerned about wearing designer cut clothes and even his beard cut and turban is different in every rally, which shows he is more concerned about his appearance and not about the welfare of people”, said Mr. Rawat. Attacking Modi on the WHO report which brought out that majority of women in Gujarat are anemic, he said, Modi had refuted the claims saying they are into dieting, because he did not want to accept the state of women in his state, said the Uttarakhand CM.

Referring to the Narmada Sagar project in Gujarat, he said the money which was allocated for the said project was diverted to facilitate the Ambanis. He also blamed the BJP for politicizing the natural calamity which destroyed parts of state last year, adding that the opposition was trying to politicize even sensitive border issues.

Appealing people to vote for Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal, the chief minister said, “When you caste your vote you have to see that you have to vote for the future of the country, and only Congress can ensure a bright future. Mr. Pawan Bansal is not just the leader of Chandigarh but also that of the country, having been a minister and have to ensure his victory with a huge margin”, he added.

Mr. Harish Rawat said it was a moment of pride he had come to seek vote for a person like Mr. Bansal and that Chandigarh was today a city of dreams and known internationally for its character and this has been possible only because of efforts of Mr. Bansal. “I have worked with him at different levels and also when he was the minister and he was always very concerned about issues concerning Uttarakhand.

The Uttarakhand chief minister said his state got a grant of Rs 7400 crore from the centre and Mr. Bansal had a key role in the same.
