To make classroom transactions interactive, participative, enjoyable, long-lasting and more enriching, Smart Schools are being opened.
It provides an opportunity to bring various media of teaching like text, audio, video, graphics, animations, already available documentaries together for increased student involvement and enrichment of the learning experience. This leads to increased retention and stronger grasp of the subject at hand.
Classroom teaching will go beyond the confines of text-books and students can now look forward to widening of their awareness canvas.
Govt. High School, Sector 53, was made functional during the academic session 2012-13.
The newly constructed Govt. High School, Sector 50, Chandigarh is being inaugurated as another Smart School.
It may also be mentioned here that the e-content being used in these Smart Schools is strictly mapped to NCERT books and has been prepared in-house, by a group of local teachers.
Five more schools are proposed to be established as Smart Schools in the academic year 2013-14, at an approximate cost of Rs 3 crore, 50 lakhs.
These five schools are:
- Govt. High School, Sector 54.
- Govt. Model. Sr. Secondary School, Sector 16
- Govt. Model Sr. Secondary School, Sector 35
- GMSSS-MHC, Manimajra
- GMHS, Sector 28-D
Out of these five, two schools i.e. GMSSS-MHC, Manimajra and GMHS, Sector 28-D are to be constructed out of MPLAD funds.
