Events like the Rose Festival, Chandigarh Film Festival, Chandigarh Heritage Festival and the National Theatre Festival have been taking place regularly in Chandigarh. Also the city audience has matured as art connoisseurs. An artist of Jatin Das’s stature has complimented Chandigarhians saying
Nowhere in India have I come across an audience that take their seats even before time.
The Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi has drawn an annual event calendar to bring Chandigarh on the National Art map and internationally reputed personalities like Avatarjeet Dhanjal, Raghu Rai among others have come to the city to interact with art lovers. The art museum too is doing its bit to take art to the masses. We need more fora for artistes to get-together and discuss art. It has been my desire to construct an institution in Chandigarh on the lines of the India International Centre where Intellectual activities can take place and it becomes a place for the intelligentsia of Chandigarh to meet and interact. There is a need to nurse budding talent that comes out from institutes like the Chandigarh Art College such that they also find a bearing and leave their mark on the National and International Art Space.
